Privacy Policy — BIMMER DPF Monitor
BIMMER DPF Monitor ("the app") is developed by Ukaworks, an independent developer not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW). It is an unofficial diagnostic tool for BMW F-Series diesel vehicles.
Summary
This app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to anyone, anywhere.
It has no internet access, no analytics, no advertising, no account system, and no cloud service of any kind. Everything the app does happens entirely on your phone.
What the app does
BIMMER DPF Monitor is an automated diagnostic tool designed to keep your car's diesel particulate filter (DPF) in peak condition. It connects over Bluetooth to a compatible OBD adapter (ELM327-compatible or other capable chipsets) to pull real-time data directly from your vehicle's DPF and engine systems. The app is designed to run quietly in the background, with automatic connect/disconnect as you start and stop driving, for a hands-off, non-intrusive experience. For drivers who want deeper insight, the main dashboard also offers an optional live view of all critical engine parameters as you drive.
Data collection: none
The app does not request internet access (it has no INTERNET permission at all — this is not a policy choice, it is technically incapable of making a network connection) and therefore cannot:
- Send any data to us, to BMW, or to any third party
- Use analytics, crash reporting services, or advertising networks
- Track your location, driving habits, or usage patterns
- Require or support account creation, sign-in, or sign-up
- Share, sell, or otherwise transfer any information, because none is ever transmitted anywhere
What's stored on your device
A small amount of data is saved locally, only on your phone, only for the app's own use:
- Your paired OBD adapter's Bluetooth address and name — so the app can reconnect automatically without you selecting it every time.
- Your app preferences — reconnect timing, adapter speed setting, and similar in-app settings.
- DPF regeneration history — soot levels and related readings, saved locally so the app can show trends over time.
None of this data ever leaves your device. It is not backed up to any server we control, not shared with BMW, not shared with the adapter manufacturer, and not accessible to us in any way. You can delete it at any time via Android Settings → Apps → BIMMER DPF Monitor → Storage → Clear Data, without uninstalling the app. Uninstalling the app deletes it as well.
Security
Because no data ever leaves your device, there is no data-in-transit to intercept. Locally stored data is protected by Android's standard per-app sandboxing and whatever device lock (PIN, pattern, or biometric) you have configured on your phone.
Permissions the app requests, and why
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth (scan / connect) | To find and connect to your OBD adapter. Bluetooth scanning is declared neverForLocation — the app does not use Bluetooth scan results to determine your location, and Android does not grant it location access for this. |
| Foreground service (connected device) | So the app can keep monitoring your DPF in the background while driving, with a persistent notification showing it's active — required by Android for any app that maintains a long-running Bluetooth connection. |
| Notifications | To alert you when soot levels are high or a DPF regeneration starts/completes. |
| Receive boot completed | So background monitoring can resume automatically after your phone restarts, without you having to reopen the app. |
| Wake lock | To keep the Bluetooth connection alive while the phone's screen is off during a drive. |
| Ignore battery optimizations (requested, not automatic) | Some Android battery-saving modes can interrupt Bluetooth reconnection; this permission lets you optionally exempt the app so background monitoring stays reliable. You are asked to grant this — the app does not assume it. |
Children's privacy
This app is a vehicle diagnostic tool and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect data from anyone, of any age — because it does not collect data at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version adds an optional feature that does involve data leaving the device — this page will be updated first, and the change will be described here in plain language before it ships.
